Great Food and Fantastic Festivals
This weekend Jamie and I stumbled upon the greatest festival in the world...Stockton's Annual Asparagus Festival! This festival celebrated everything asparagus, from deep-fried asparagus to Aspara-marys (some alternate form of a bloody mary). We even giggled like little school girls when we realized that the port-a-johns smelled funny! The festival had musical entertainment, asparagus mascots, a skateboarding bulldog, and a bunch of arts and crafts tents. Jamie and I tried the deep fried asparagus (it was REALLY good!), but we opted for a couple of beers instead of asparagus-inspired drinks. Unfortunately, we left early because we could no longer take the intense heat. You see, Stockton is about 40 miles south of Sacramento and apparently about 15 degrees warmer. After the thermometer on a local bank told us it was 98 degrees outside, we decided that the air-conditioned car would be a better option for us.
However, the fun didn't stop in Stockton. Today, we met some friends for our first ever dim sum brunch. Dim sum is very popular out here, and Jamie and I had never heard of it before we moved to California. Basically, it's a Chinese brunch where waiters come around with carts offering various appetizer-like foods. We ate everything from pork-filled buns to shrimp dumplings. Although we were leery about eating Chinese food at 10 AM, the food was absolutely phenomenal, and we can't wait to do it again!
